History 1983
Phil Meeson of Dart Group purchased Channel Express, a cargo company in 1983, operating out of Bournemouth Airport
History 2002
Channel Express established the Jet2.com brand from Leeds Bradford airport. First flight was Leeds to Amsterdam n 2003, with 2 B737 300’s.
History 2004
Second base opened in Manchester from terminal 1 then later Belfast same year, after acquiring more B737 & 757
History 2005
Opened Newcastle, Blackpool and Edinburgh bases after acquiring 2 more B757’s
History 2006
Company relocated from Bournemouth to Leeds and was renamed Jet2.com
History 2008
November 2008 changed its slogan from “The Norths Low Cost Airline” to “Friendly Low Fares”
November and December 2008, operated 4 direct flights from Leeds Bradford to Newark Liberty International Airport using B757 200’s with a series flights announced from Leeds and Newcastle for December 2010.
History 2010
East Midlands opened in May 2010
History 2011
Glasgow opened April 2011.
Introduced second hand B737 800’s providing more capacity than the 300’s.
History 2012
Seasonal flights from Glasgow, Newcastle, East Midlands & Leeds to New York in Winter 2012. These continued until 2019. Since Covid these trips have not returned.
History 2016
Received first of new B737 800’s. Total order for 34.
History 2019
Took last of its 34 new B737’s taking its permanent and leased fleet to more than 100 aircraft.
Carried a record 14.39 million passengers on 82,931 flights. An 18% increase over the year before.
History 2020
17th August 2020 announced via BALPA laying off 102 pilots from various bases, due Covid.
History 2021
Opened Bristol base July 2021.
Announced an order for 36 Airbus 321 Neo aircraft plus options for 24 more, totalling 60 aircraft.
