Histology: Muscle Tissue Flashcards
Tissue is striated, some cells are bifurcated, centrally located nuclei, contains gap junctions
Cardiac Muscle Tissue
- location: only in heart
- function: moves blood through heart
- short cylindrical cells
- gap junctions = intercalated discs
- bifurcated cells = branching cells
Tissue made up of spindle shaped cells with centrally located nucleus, no striations
Smooth (Visceral) Muscle Tissue
- location: walls of most organs
- function: moves substances through organs
Tissue made up of lon, cylindrical cells, multinucleated with nuclei at periphery of cells, contains striations
Skeletal Muscle Tissue
- Location: attached to bone by tendons
- Function: moves skeleton, stabilizes joints, produces heat when contracts
Tendons
Type of Tissue?

- Dense Regular Connective Tissue
- Attach Skeletal M. to Bone
name this tissue
What characteristics can you find that help characterize it?
Dense Regular Connective Tissue
Fibroblast nuclei in center, very wavy
name this tissue
What characteristics can you find that help characterize it?
Skeletal Muscle
Striated, peripheral nuclei
name this tissue
What characteristics can you find that help characterize it?
Cardiac M.
branching cells, intercalated discs, nuclei in center
name this tissue
What characteristics can you find that help characterize it?
Skeletal M.
striations, peripheral nuclei
name this tissue
What characteristics can you find that help characterize it?
the blood vessel in center has smooth muscle around it.
because it looks like blood vessel and that’s where Smooth M. is located, plus has central nuclei and no striations
name this tissue
What characteristics can you find that help characterize it?
Smooth M.
no striations, spindle-shaped cells, centralized nuclei
