Histology Lecture 2 - Epithelium and Glands Flashcards
Blood vessel endothelial cells are an example of what cell type?
Simple squamous.
Where is the mesothelium found?
Lining the body cavities.
What cell type are those that line Bowman’s capsule?
Simple squamous.
What cell type are those that line the lung alveoli?
Simple squamous.
What cell type are those found in the collecting tubule of kidneys?
Simple cuboidal
What cell type are found in the small intestine?
Simple columnar.
Where are pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium found exclusively?
Trachea and bronchi.
Which cell type loses their nuclei as they migrate apically? What organ are these found in?
Stratified squamous keratinizing epithelium. Found in thin skin.
Stratified squamous cells that do not lose their nuclei are called what? Where are they found in the body?
These are Stratified squamous nonkeratinizing epithelium (SSNKE). Found in the vagina, oral cavity, esophagus, and anal canal.
Where are stratified cuboidal cells found?
In the epithelium lining of large glandular ducts.
Where are stratified columnar cells found?
VERY LARGE glandular ducts and in portions of the male urethra.
What is transitional epithelium unique to? What is another name for it? What shape do some cells take on?
Unique to the urinary system. Also called urothelium. Cells take on dome shape, called umbrella cells.
What makes for a simple glandular epithelia?
No branching.
What is a acinar gland?
That shit is round.
Compare the staining patterns of mucus vs. serous glands.
Mucus stains light. Also, artifact occurs: H2O gets into these cells and hydrates the mucous, causing expansion. This smashes the nuclei against the BM. Nuclei are stained dark.
Serous stains darker.
