Histology Flashcards
What are tissues
A group of similar cells that work together to perform a specific structural and functional role in an organ
What are the four primary tissues
Epithelial tissue connective tissue muscular tissue
nervous tissue
Epithelial tissue
Covers body surfaces; also lines the following cavities, ducks, organs also forms glands
Connective tissue
Helps protect and support body organs; also Binds organs together, stores energy and provides immunity
Muscular tissue
Allows movement; contraction and force,
generates heat
Nervous tissue
Response to changes inside and outside the body by stimulus produces electrical signals
Matrix or extracellular material
“Stuff” that surrounds the cell
Little matrix-epithelial tissue and muscle tissue
More matrix-connective tissue
Composition of matrix
-Fibrous proteins(1/2)
-Clear gel like substance(1/2)
Extracellular fluid(ECF)
Ground substance
Interstitial fluid
-Cartledge(rubbery)
-bone(Stony)
Matrix contains
Water, gases,minerals nutrients, waste
Embryonic tissues
Primary germ layers-first tissues that appear during development
- Ectoderm,epidermis and nervous tissue
- Mesoderm,blood bone muscle
- Endoderm, digestive glands mucous membranes
