Jansens
Positive: patient unable to complete motion or leans back
Indicates: OA, tightness (hamstrings, glute max, multifidus)
Sign of the buttock
Positive: pain
Indicates: bursitis, abscess, neoplasm
Adductor contracture
Positive: ASIS raised on same side or ASIS depresses on opposite side
Indicates: adductor contracture
Abductor Contraction
Positive: ASIS shifts down on affected aside or up on unaffected side
Indicates: abductor contracture
FABER test
Positive: pain in hip
Indicates: hip capsule tightness, OA, adductor tightness; Anterior stretch (anterior hip capsule); Posterior Compression (bursa, piriformis, sciatic nerve, posterior capsule, SI joint)
FADIR
Positive: pain
Indicates: anterior structures or posterior structures
Craig’s
Positive: measures more than 15 or less than 8
Indicates: Excessive anteversion (more than 15) or Retroversion (anything under 8)
Thomas test
Positive: affected hip doesn’t drop
Indicates: Iliopsoas tightness
Rectus femoris (ely’s test)
Positive: leg drops with extension of leg
Indicates: tight rectus
Ober
Positive: Pt leg does not drop
Indicates: IT band tightness
Modified ober
Positive: leg doesn’t drop
Indicates: retinacular fibers
Piriformis Test
Positive: pain/tightness
Indicates: piriformis tightness
Hip Scour
Positive: pain or apprehension
Indicates: impingement
Log Roll
Positive: pain, click
indicates: labral tear
