Hip Flexion
Supine “bring knee towards belly” with knee flexed
Knee bent
Use greater trochanter as axis
Hip Extension
Lay prone
Knee bent
“With your knee bent, bring your leg up towards the sky”
Hip Adduction
Laying supine
Have goniometer at 90 to start
Move untested leg out and bring the other leg towards it
Subtract from 90
Hip Abduction
Axis over right ASIS, non moving arm towards left ASIS
Always have less abduction
Laying supine
Have goniometer at 90 to start
Have untested leg straight and bring the other leg away from neutral leg
Subtract from 90
Hip Internal Rotation
Knees bent, sitting up, leg (foot) out
Patella is axis
Hip External Rotation
Knees bent, sitting up, leg (foot) in
Patella is axis
One stays perpendicular to the axis of the floor
