Hip Joint Flashcards
What muscle attaches to the Anterior inferior ilium spine
Rectus Femoris
What muscle attaches to the Posterior superior ilium spine?
Gluteus Maximus
What ligaments are involved in the hip joint and what bones do they connect?
Ischiofemoral - ischia to femur
Iliofemoral - ilium to femur
Pubofemoral - Pubis to femur
Which ligaments prevent external rotation?
Iliofemoral and Pubofemoral
What ligament prevents internal rotation?
Ischiofemoral
What happens in extension
All three ligaments become taught in extension
What are the differences between the hip and shoulder joint?
The hip is more stable due to weight bearing with stronger ligaments, however less range of motion.
The acetabulum is deeper than the Glenoid
How does the acetabulum labrum work?
It creates a negative pressure which allows it to “suck” the femoral head into the acetabulum.
Sticks out even further than the bone to make the socket deeper
ROM for flexion and extension
140degrees flexion
20 degrees extension
ROM for abduction and adduction
50degrees abduction
30degrees adduction
ROM internal and external rotation
40 degrees internal rotation
50 degrees external rotation
What muscles are the hip flexors?
Iliopsoas
Rectus Femoris
Sartorius
What muscles are the hip extensors?
Gluteus Maximus
Hamstrings
What muscles are the Adductors?
Adductor Longus
Adductor Magnus
Adductor Brevis
What muscles are the Abductors?
Gluteus Medius
Gluteus Minimus
