Hip Joint Flashcards
Brief Description of the Hip joint
Synovial Joint
Triaxial
Ball and socket joint
What are the articular surfaces (where the bones meet)
Head of femur
Lunate surface of acetabulum of pelvis bone
What intracapsular soft tissues are involved in the hip joint
Labrum (tough fibre cartilage)
Ligaments (hold the hip stable)
Fat pad
Synovial membrane
Joint capsule
What Extracapsular soft tissues are there
Three ligaments
Iliofemoral
Pubofemoral
Ischiofemoral
What are the bones within the pelvis
Ilium - Biggest part of the pelvis
Pubis - Front of the pelvis (pubic region)
Ischium - back of the pelvis
What are the bony points of the hip joint?
Iliac crest
Anterior superior iliac spine
Anterior inferior iliac spine
Posterior superior iliac spine
Ischial tuberosity
Greater Trochanter (on the femur)
What muscles attach to the ischial tuberosity?
All three hamstring muscles
What muscles attach to the Greater Trochanter
Gluteus Medius and minimus
What muscles attach to the iliac crest?
Gluteus Maximus
What muscles attach to the Anterior superior iliac spine
Sartorius muscle
