JP Drain, HemoVac, closed wound
Only for people with severe OA
Cemented Joint v. Non Cemented Joint
Cemented: resume activity faster, does not last as long
Non Cemented: longer recovery, lasts longer
Post Op Care
Abduction pillow Ambulation in 12 hrs Keep hips aligned PWB Monitor for complications Do not cross legs Monitor lab values
Pre Op Care
Stop Anti-Coags for one week All Dental Work beforehand Epoetin Alpha Iron Supplements Autologus Transfusion Shower with antibacterial soap Dont Shave Med Clearance Appropriate Anesthesia
Longitudinal v. Posterolateral Incision
-Longitudinal: 8-10cm, more muscle loss, longer recovery, decrease risk of dislocation
Posterolateral : 20-24 cm, less muscle involved, increase risk dislocation

Proper body mechanics
Fall Prevention
Factors that improve Recovery
