Trochanteric - Avulsion of trachanter

Why is an intracapsular fracture worse?

A

Disrupts blood supple via reticular arteries from medial and lateral circumflex femoral arteries causing a risk of AVN

What are the treatment options for an intracapsular fracture?

A
  1. Total hip replacement - if severe of comminuted
  2. Hemi arthroplasty
  3. Cannulated screws - If younger and no osteoporosis
