Hip flexors Flashcards
What is the origin, insertion and action for Ilio Psoas
Origin - conjoined muscle of Psoas major tendon and illiacus muscle
Insertion - lesser trochanter
Action - hip flexion/trunk flexion at hip
What is the origin, insertion and action for Pectinius
Origins - superior pubic Ramus
Insertion - lesser trochanter to the Linea aspera (pectineal line)
Action - flexes and adducts the thigh
What is the origin, insertion and action for Rectus femoris (quadriceps)
Origin - the long head (straight)comes from the anterior inferior iliac spine. The short head (reflected) comes from the ilium above the acetabulum
Insertion - quadriceps tendon of the patella
Action - extends the knee and flexes the hip
What is the origin, insertion and action for Sartorius
Origin - anterior super iliac spine
Insertion - anterior medial surface of proximal tibia
Action - flexes, abducts, laterally rotates the thigh.
Also medically rotates the flexed knee
Name the muscles for hip flexion
Psoas Major Sartorius Illiacus Pectinius Rectus femoris Gracilis
What are the limits in muscles for hip flexion
Soft tissue apposition and tension in hamstrings
