Hip Extensors Flashcards
What is the origin, insertion and action for Gluteus Maximus
Origin - outer surface of posterior ilium, sacrum, and coccyx
Insertions - illiotibial band, gluteal tuberosity of femur
Action - extension of trunk and thigh, and lateral rotation of the thigh
What is the origin, insertion and action for Bicep femoris (hamstring)
Origin - long head is ischial tuberosity and short head is the linea aspera and supra condylar ridge
Insertions - head of fibula, lateral tibial condyle
Action - flexes and laterally rotates the knee, long head extends the hip
What is the origin, insertion and action for Semitendinosus
Origin - ischial tuberosity
Insertion - medial surface of proximal tibia
Action - extends the hip, flexes and medially rotates the knee
What is the origin, insertion and action for Semimembranosus
Origin - ischial tuberosity
Insertion - posterior aspect of medial tibial condyle
Action - extends the hip, flexes and medially rotates the knee
Name the muscles for hip extension
Gluteus Maximus Adductor Magnus (external part) Biceps femoris Semimembranosus Semitendonosus
What limits the muscles for hip extension
All ligaments and close packed position
