Hip and Posterior thigh Flashcards
name the muscles in the posterior thigh
semitendinosus
semimembranosus
biceps femoris
what is the nerve supply to the posterior thigh muscles?
sciatic nerve (tibial division)
(except short head of biceps femoris- common fibular division
where does the sciatic nerve enter/exit pelvis?
greater sciatic foramen
what is the course of the sciatic nerve?
enters pelvis inferior to piriformis and deep to gluteus maximus and descends in posterior thigh deep to biceps femoris
what muscle in the posterior compartment is most medial?
semitendinosus
what articulates with what at the hip joint?
head of femur articulates with acetabulum of hip bone
what is the acetabular labrum?
a fibrocartilaginous rim attached to the margin of the acetabulum
what is the intertrochanteric crest?
the distal attachment of the capsule
what is the transverse acetabulum ligament?
a continuation of the acetabular ligament
what are the 3 intrinsic ligaments of the hip joint ligament?
- iliofemoral ligament
- pubofemoral ligament
- ischiofemoral ligament
what is the strongest ligament in the body?
iliofemoral ligament
describe the blood supply to the head of the femur?
profunda femoris artery gives rise to medial and lateral circumflex arteries which give rise to the retinacular arteries
what does the acetabular branch of obturaror artery supply?
head of femur
