Hip and Knee Joints Flashcards
What sort of joint is the hip joint?
The hip joint is a true ball and socket joint.
The iliofemoral (iliotrochanteric) ligament is in what shape and can be found where in the hip joint?
The iliofemoral ligament is found on the anterior aspect of the hip joint and is Triangular shaped. This is the longest, widest, and strongest joint in the hip.
What does the iliofemoral ligament check for?
Hyperextension and external rotation helping to maintain an erect posture.
The pubofemoral ligament attaches where?
Attaches to the superior ramus of the pubis and obturator crest.
Where does the apex of the pubofemoral ligament blend into?
Blends in with the iliofemoral ligament.
What does the pubofemoral ligament check against/
Checks against hyperextension, abduction, and external rotation.
What does the ligament capitis femoris attach to?
The fovea capitis femoris and by its base to the transverse ligament.
When does ligament capitis femoris become tense?
Becomes tense when flexed thigh is adducted.
The acetabular labrum is what sort of membrane?
Fibrocartilagenous
What is the transverse acetabular labrum?
A continuation of the acetabular labrum that runs across the acetabular notch. Does not contain cartilage cells.
The arterial supply to the hip joint come from a collection of what arteries?
The obturator, the medial and lateral circumflex femoral, the inferior and superior gluteal, and the first perforating artery.
Which sort of fracture of the head of the femur will result in avascularity/
A basal fracture at the base of the neck usually does not lead to necrosis of the head.
A subcapital fracture does however break the vessels that feed the head.`
What nerves supply the hip joint?
The femoral, obturator, superior gluteal, and inferior gluteal as well as the sciatic all supply the hip joint.
What type of joint is between the tibia and femur?
It is a synovial hinge joint but some degree of rotatory movement is possible. Thus it is better described as a Condyloid joint.
The joint between the patella and femur is a synovial joint of what sort of plane?
Of the plane gliding variety.
What composes the quadriceps tendon?
The medial and lateral patellar retinacula which encloses the patella.
Where does the patellar ligament travel?
Travels from the patela to the tuberosity of the tibia
The fibular collateral ligament is covered by the tendon of what muscle?
The biceps femoris which divides and covers both sides of the ligament.
