Hip Flashcards
What is the hip anatomy?
composed of three joints:
sacroiliac, symphysis pubis, acetabulofemoral
acetabular joint is a ball and socket joint held together by pubo, ischio and iliofemoral ligaments
axis of motion polyaxial in all directions including circumduction
what are the normal hip ROM?
Add 20 Abd 40 Flexion 120 Extension 20 Med/lat rotation 45 -These normal values varies considerable b/w indivudals -hamstrings 70 straight leg flexion -trendelendburg test for weak abductors. SLS should have unsupported hip at same or higher level if not positive for weak abductor
what are the hip restrictions?
-internal or external restriction in a rotated position due to muscle or osseous factors
-tight flexion, posterior muscles tight
-tight extension, anterior muscles tight
-external rotation limited, internal rotators are tight
-internal rotation limited, external rotators tight
if both position show restricted motion osseous involvement indicated
common causes of hip pain?
OA, muscle strain, capsular/ligamentus strain, leabral tears, sacroiliac irritation, greater trochanteric bursitis, stress fracture , femeroacetabular impingement, referral from back
