- What type of diabetes?
- have they seen an educator before?
- what health practitioners have they see?
- how they control their diabetes?
- Last BGL/Hba1c levels?
- do they see a podiatrist?
- establish their level of foot care knowledge?
- What is their concerns and goals?

What do we need to explain to a diabetic patient?
A
- Role of podiatrist
- Neuropathy and PAD
- What tests we perform
- Their current status (Low/Moderate/High)
- How often we need to see them
- Daily footcare education
- monitor any concerns and seek medical assistance
- antiseptic at home

Why does neuropathy occur?
A
- High BGL can cause damage to small vessel which supply nutrients to the nerve
- Nerve are extremely sensitive to any change in their oxygen and nutrients
- If they don’t receive adequate oxygen and nutrients the will die
First signs
- numbness and burning sensation
- left untreated complete loss of feeling (LOPS)
