What is this a presentation of?
Insidious onset thigh/buttock pain, referring down thighs, stiffness of hip flexion. Pain worsened by activity and at night.
Hip osteoarthritis
How is suspected hip osteoarthritis investigated?
Thomas test +ve, reduced range of motion (especially internal rotation).
What is the treatment for hip osteoarthritis?
Physio, NSAIDs, surgical arthroplasty.
What is this a presentation of?
Elderly female with localised pain over lateral thigh, pain when lying on that side.
Greater trochanteric bursitis
What is the treatment for greater trochanteric bursitis?
NSAIDs, physio, steroid injections, surgical bursectomy.
What are the causes of sacro-iliac joint dysfunction due to immobility and subsequent inflammation?
- Osteoarthritis
- Pregnancy
- Ankylosing spondylitis
