What is the sign of the buttock test used for?

A
  • is the patient’s pain from the buttock or referred from the back or SI nerve
  • SLR is completed to resistance, then knee is flexed and hip flexion from there is assessed
  • if the hip flexion does not increase, then it is considered to be a gluteal pathology

What conditions would yield a positive sign of the buttock test?

A

gluteal bursitis, abscess, tightness of glute max, and tightness of posterior capsule
