Hip Muscle Tests - Thomas Test
Test for - Hip flexor flexibility
- Client laying flat on back both legs hanging off the edge of table
- Ask client to bring one knee up to chest and hold it there with both hands
Positive - Increase lordosis / Hanging leg lifting off the bed
Hip Muscle Tests - Trendelenburg Test
Tests for - Hip instability / Hip abductor weakness
- Ask client to stand on one leg
- Advise them to use wall if unstable
- Observe position of the hip on the lifted leg side
Positive - Hip drops instead of raises
Hip Muscle Tests - Ely’s test
Tests for - tightness and contracture in the Rec Fem
- Client lying prone on bed
- Flex knee too maximum
- Compare both knees
Positive - Hip flexes with knee
