hindlimb anatomy Flashcards
in dogs, the ilium, ishium, pudis and acetabular bone are fused by what ages?
a) 4 weeks
b) 9 weeks
c) 12 weeks
d) 15 weeks

what type of joint is the iliosacral joint?
This is a synovial joint that is formed by the articulations between the auricular surfaces of the ilial wing and the sacrum. It has a joint capsule that tightly surrounds the joint and is strengthened by the ventral sacroiliac ligaments. - from wikivet
lateral aspect of the pelvis, name the blank labels
A- middle gluteal
B- deep gluteal
C- biceps femoris
D- semitendinous
E- semimembraneous
what ligament holds the femoral head and acetabulum together dog
ligament of the head of the femur/ round ligament
which bone do the tibia and fibula articulate with in the tarsus?
talus
which tendons make up the common calcaneal tendon
gastrocnemius, superficial digital flexor, and a conjoined tendon formed by tendons from the biceps femoris, semitendinosus, and gracilis.
Proximally, the medial and lateral heads of the gastrocnemius muscle were tightly wrapped around the superficial digital flexor muscle and merged distally to form one gastrocnemius tendon, which inserted on the calcaneus slightly to its lateral aspect. The proximal part of the superficial digital flexor tendon was medial to the gastrocnemius tendon, but twisted around it, becoming superficial in position in the distal third of the calcaneal tendon. Over the tuber calcis, the superficial digital flexor tendon was separated from the gastrocnemius tendon and the calcaneus by a synovial bursa. The semitendinosus tendon, which included a tendinous component from the gracilis muscle, was medial to the gastrocnemius muscle, and the biceps femoris tendon was lateral to the gastrocnemius muscle. These tendons merged distally to form the conjoined tendon, which was the deepest (most cranial) component of the calcaneal tendon. The conjoined tendon inserted on the dorsal aspect of the calcaneus.

which numbers represent the quadriceps and name them
25-vastus medialis
26- rectus femoris
27- vastus lateralis
28- vastus intermedius
where does the cranial cruciate ligament insert and attach?
runs from the intercondylar area of LATERAL CONDYLE of the femur,
diagonally to the cranial intercondyloid area of the tibia
in cranial curciate ligament disease, which meniscus can be damaged
medial
The meniscus is a semilunar, fibrocartilage with a thick, convex peripheral border and central thin, concave border
which of these are intra- articular?
a) patellar ligament
b) long digital extensor tendon
c) popliteus tendon
B
the lateral extensor tendon, also known as the long digital extensor tendon, is considered “intra-articular,” meaning it passes through the joint capsule, but it is important to note that it is considered “extra-synovial” as the synovial membrane does not directly cover the tendon itself; it only passes around it within the joint space
the popliteus is never completely surrounded by a synovial membrane, only on the deep surface where is acts as a bursa.
what type of joint is the stifle?
a) ellipsoid
b) condylar
c) saddle
d) plane
