Hindlimb Flashcards

1
Q

Describe the path of the sciatic nerve and it’s innervation

A

Extends from L6-s1
Moves over the greater sciatic notch and down the caudal side of the proximal aspect of the femur
It continues down this aspect into 2/3 of the way down where it branches into the tibial and fibular nerves
The next branch just below is the caudal cutaneous sural n
The fibular n branches into the superficial and deep peroneal
Deep Innervate the extensor muscle and the tibialis caudalis and turns into the superficial dorsal metatarsal n
The superficial n turns into the deep dorsal metatarsal n.
The tibial n. innervates gastrocnemius and digital flexor muscles then turns into the medial and lateral planter nerves

Q

Describe the route and innervation of the obturator muscle

A

Starts from L4-L6
Runs along the ventral spine of the ilium to the obturator foramen
It goes through the obturator foramen and runs down the caudal aspect of the Fermor
It has 3 branches with Innervate the:
•obturator muscle
•gracilis muscle
•abductor muscle

Q

Describe the path and innervation of the femoral nerve

A

Starts at L5 and L6
Travels distal to the ventral spine of the ilium
It runs down the cranial surface of the Fermor where it branches into the saphenous nerve and two branches:
• innervation for the quadratus femoris m.
•sartorius m.
The saphenous nerve runs down the cranial side until the bottom of the metatarsals
