High Index Arterial Fluid Flashcards
A solution in which the water is the solvent
Aqueous solution
Inactivating saprophytic bacteria and rendering the body tissues less susceptible to decomposition
Vascular Fluid
The mixture of arterial fluid aka vascular fluid and water which is used for the arterial injection and may include supplemental fluids
Arterial Solution
A fluid used primarily to supplement and enhance the action of vascular arterial solutions. The injection of a specialized chemical in conjunction with the routine arterial chemical
Co-Injection Fluid
A solution containing a relatively large amount of solute
Concentrated Fluid
Disease that may be transmitted between individuals, with reference to the organism that causes a disease
Contagious Disease
In embalming, the chemical joining of proteins brought about by the chemical reactions of aldehydes with different forms of nitrogen.
Cross Linkage of Proteins
Rendered thoroughly dry, exhausted of moisture
Desiccation
Area of embalmed tissue where excessive dehydration has occurred
Desiccation Marks
Sloughing off of the epidermis, wherein there is a separation of the epidermis from the underlying dermis as a result of putrefaction
Desquamation aka Skin Slip
Abnormal amounts of fluids in tissue or body cavities
Edema aka Dropsy
Injection of embalming through the arteries and draining from the veins
Embalming Vascular
Rigidity of tissue due to chemical reaction.
Firming
A small aldehyde that produces significant firming; Colorless, strong smelling gas that when used in solution is a powerful preservative and disinfectant
Formaldehyde
A large aldehyde that produces little firming
Gluteraldehyde
The act of making tissue rigid. The solidification of a compound
Fixation
An agent employed in the preparation of tissues for the purpose of maintaining the existing form of the structure. Many agents are used, the most important one being formalin
Fixative
A dead human body , in a body of water, which has generated sufficient decomposition gasses to float to the surface of the water
Floater
The movement of arterial solution through the capillaries into the intercellular spaces, from intravascular to extravascular position
Fluid Diffusion
The movement of the arterial solution from the point of injection through the blood vascular system
Fluid Distribution
The amount of formaldehyde necessary to overcome any nitrogen residue and cause the body proteins to become coagulated
Formaldehyde Demand
Grey discoloration of the body caused by the reaction of formaldehyde from the embalming process with hemoglobin to form methyl hemoglobin
Formaldehyde Grey
A mixture of formaldehyde gas dissolved in water with 40% by volume, 37% by weight and contains 7% methy alcohol to prevent polymerization
Formalin
The non protein portion of hemoglobin
Heme
The red respiratory portion of the red blood cells; iron containing pigment of red blood cells functioning to carry oxygen to the cells
Hemoglobin
Antemortem or postmortem settling of blood and other fluids to dependent portions of the body.
Hypostasis
Postmortem, intravascular red-blue discoloration resulting from hypostasis of blood can usually be cleared via arterial injection
Liver Mortis
The destruction of red blood cells that lead to postmortem stain. Destruction of red blood cells that liberates hemoglobin
Hemolysis
Injection of very strong arterial fluid under relatively high pressure into head and face through both common carotid arteries to effect preservation and disinfection while minimizing swelling
Instant Tissue Fixation
Discoloration of the body OUTSIDE the body vascular system. While it the definition calls it discoloration it is actually a stain because it is outside
Extravascular Blood Discoloration
Discoloration of the body WITHIN the blood vascular system
Intravascular Blood Discoloration
Tuberculosis of the skin; patches ulcerate and leave scars on healing
Lupus Vulgaris
A minute one celled form of life not distinguishable as to vegetable or animal nature
Microbe
Metabolic by-products that contain nitrogen, such as urea and uric acid
Nitrogenous Waste
Substance able to destroy lice
Pediculicide
Inflammation of the peritoneum
Peritonitis
Condition in which interstitial spaces contain such excessive amounts of fluid that the skin remains depressed after palpatation.
Pitting Edema
Chemicals which kill or render incapable of reproducing disease causing microorganisms
Germicide
What are some of the consequences of refrigeration?
Intense Livor Mortis
Rapid Hemolysis
Increases capillary permeability
Easy rupture of the capillaries during arterial injection
Increased coagula in the vascular system
Gravitation of blood and bodily fluids into the body tissue
