What is the composition of the high court?
- Chief Justice appointed by the president in consultation with the governor of that state and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
- Other judges appointed by the president in consultation with the governor of that state , the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and Chief Justice of that particular high court.
Which states share the High Court of Guwahati?
Eastern states of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.
What are the qualifications for a judge of the high court?
- Citizen of India
- High Court advocate for at least 10 years
- Holder of a Judicial office in India for at least 10 years

By the president through the same process as the judge of Supreme Court.

How does the high court exercise original jurisdiction?
In cases involving:
- protection of fundamental rights
- disputes related to state elections
- cases where interpretation of the constitution is needed
How does the high court exercise appellate jurisdiction?
3 types of cases:
- civil
- criminal
- revenue
A person moves to high court when a subordinate court gives a death sentence or when a party is not satisfied with the decision made by a lower court.
How does the high court maintain a court of record and exercise supervisory jurisdiction?
- maintains records of decisions (like the Supreme Court) for subordinate courts to refer.
