Hierarchy Flashcards
What is hierarchy
An arrangement of living things according to their complexity
List the hierarchy from less complex to the most complex
Cells, tissue, organs, organ systems, organism
What are cells in the hierarchy
- the smallest part of living matter
- has a special structure and can be specialised for a specific function
Eg. nerve, blood and skin cells
What are tissues in the hierarchy
- made out of a group of cells with similar structures es working together to perform a shared function
Eg. muscular tissue- specialises in movement
What are the four main animal tissue
Epithelia
Muscle
Nervous
Connective
What is epithelia tissue
Skin cells outside and inside the body
What is muscle tissue
Movement/contract and relax muscle
What are nervous tissue
Control and communication
What is connective tissue
Adds supports and structure to the body
What are organ in hierarchy
- specific part on an organ system and performs a specific function
- mad out of at least 2 different types of tissue that works together to complete a task
Eg. The stomach is part of the digestive system made out of 3 types of tissue
What are organ systems in an hierarchy
- is part of the body of an organism, performing a specific function
- made out of 2 or more organs that work together
Eg. Digestive system
What are organism in the hierarchy
Is an individual living being which is part of an population
