Circulatory System Flashcards
What is the circuitry system purpose
1) to carry blood and dissolves substances to and from different places in the body
2) made out of heart and blood vessels
3) the heart pumps blood and substances around the body in tubes called blood vessels
Which side deals with oxygenated blood and deoxygenated blood
The right side deals with deoxygenated blood while the left side deals with oxygenated blood
How does the heart work
1) the heart begins when heart flows into a vein known as the vena cava and then flows into the right atria
2) the atria contracts then the valves open to allow deoxygenated blood into the right ventricle
3) the right ventricle contracts forcing the blood to leave the heart through a pulmonary artery into the lungs
4) the deoxygenated red blood cells goes through the lungs and pick up oxygen
5) the oxygenated red blood cells returns and enter the left atrium
6) goes through valve into left ventricle to go through the body through the atria
7) takes oxygenation blood to the body and picks up carbon dioxide
Name the three types of blood vessels
1) artery
2) vein
3) capillary
Describe the artery’s function,wall and features
The function;
Carries blood away from heart
Wall;
Thick muscle and elastic fingers
Features;
Thick elastic fibres allow the artery to stretch under pressure
The thick muscle can contract to pouch the blood along
Describe the veins function, wall and features
Function; carry the blood towards the heart
Wall;
Thin and flexible muscles and fibres
Features;
Has valves to stop the blood from going the wrong way
Muscles surrounded so it can contract to push the blood along
Describe the capillary function, wall and features
Function:
Link artery and veins together
Wall;
Very thin 1 cell thick
Features:
Exchange of materials between blood and body
