What is a High-rise bldg
Any structure four or more stories above the ground
An area from which the emergency systems of the bldg can be controlled (air handlers, elevators, intercomes)

Where should the resource area be locate?
Two floors below fire floor and managed by a resource group officer
Where should rehab area be located
2 floors below fire floor next to rehab area and shall consist of an assigned co with the officer being the rehab group officer. It shall also include ETEMS MICU personnel.
Where shall the safe refuge area be located?
3 floors below fire floor and managed by company who’s officer shall be safe refuge group officer. This is the place for evacuees to be brought from upper floors.
Where should the staging area be located?
Outside the bldg atleast 1 1/2 times the height of the bldg away for safety. First officer to the staging area shall be staging area officer.
Critical steps to successful operations
Elevator control with someone to run them
Aggressive fire attack with no delay
Establish resource group
Communication and coordination
What is an obligation of crews reporting to upper floors?
To carry spare SCBA bottles and deliver them to resource group
When should possible ventilation techniques be established in a hi-rise?
During pre fire plans before an incident occurs.
What are company assignment when there is no indication of fire?
First 2 arriving units form an investigative team and all other units report to staging until they receive orders.
What are company assignment when there is indication of a fire?
1st engine - get elevator keys and assign someone to run them
2nd engine - team up with 1st engine crew and proceed to fire floor for attack and rescue operations
1st two engine drivers - team up and supply the FDC/standpipe
3rd engine serves as RIC AND reports to resource group until entry is needed
If T3 only has two members, the driver from 3rd arriving engine shall join one member from truck for search, Evac, and rescue ops.
T3 is primarily assigned to search, Evac, and rescue ops. Use different stairwell than fire attack crews if possible. If this operation not needed, then T3 should perform ventilation duties. The driver shall set the ladder as directed by the IC
Next arriving units should report to floors above the fire floor to check for extention and rescue needs
All other units shall report to staging awaiting assignment.
