-widespread in human population
-human virus
-grow rapidly–> highly cytolytic
-spectrum of diseases–> gingivistomatitis, keratitis, encephalitis, genital disease.
-latent infection in nerve cells–> recurrence common
- transmitted in vesicle fluid, saliva, vaginal secretion
-MMMM ( mixing and matching of mucous membranes)
- both types cause oral and genital lesions
:::–> HSV1 spread by oral contact -> kissing, sharing glasses,toothbrushes, mouth to skin ( through break in skin)
:::–> HSV2 via sexual contact from an infected mother to infant at birth
– tropism : the genitalia, ano recital tissues, oropharynx
