Q

pathophysiology

A

HSV1 and 2 are acquired with breaks in the skin
the virus replicates in the skin and then infects nerves and travels to the sensory ganglia where it enters a latent stage to evade the immune system
reactivation of the virus can cause asymptomatic shedding of the virus or symptoms of tingling, burning and ulceration
