A

Usually
Herpes 1 - mouth, lips

Herpes 2 - Genitals

Treatment has to start within 5 days of appearance of infection.

What does varicella-zoster virus cause?

A

Causes chicken-pox.

Anti-viral treatment must be started within 24hrs of onset of rash; which reduces severity and duration of symptoms.

What is the treatment for herpes?

A

Aciclovir - treatment of choice! But doesn’t eradicate them.

Famciclovir - used for herpes zoster and genital herpes

Valciclovir - used in herpes zoster and simplex; and cytomegalovirus disease after organ transplant
