The theory of interpretation concerned with general problems of understanding the meanings of texts.

- Our understanding of the work must invovle an ancipitation of the whole that informs f view of the parts while simuntanuesly beeing modiefied by them (eg: we have asociations as soon as something is in the form of a Stanza)
- We can understand the present only in the context of the past, and vice versa
