Shi Gao: Gypsum
Coldest in Materia Medica.
Enters Lung (Wind-Heat) and Stomach (Yang Ming Channel Disorder).
Applied topically to burns and sores.
Venting to disperse the exterior and release the muscle layer.
Zhi Mu: Anemarrhena
Enters the Lung (govern water passages), Stomach (sends clear fluids up), and Kidney (Root Yin).
Treats Kidney Yin deficiency.
Generates fluids: moistens channels. Moistens the throat.
Zhi Zi: Gardenia
Clears heat in all 3 burners.
Very resonant with the Heart and San Jiao.
Constrained heat in any Jiao.
Pulls heat away from the heart.
Dan Zhe Ye: Lophathrie Gracilis
Bamboo. Sweet, Cold, Bland Heart, Stomach, Small Intestines Transfers Heart heat to Small Intestine. Promotes urination by leaching damp.
Xia Ku Cao: Prunella Spike
Treats hypertension. Cools Liver fire.
Clears eyes (of Liver fire): red, swollen eyes.
Disperses phlegm fire nodules in the throat and neck
Lian Zi Xin: Lotus Plumule
Clears heat from Heart and Pericardium.
Stops bleeding.
Binds Essence.
Drains heart fire.
Lu Gen: Reed Rhizome
Generates fluids in the throat by cooling the Lungs (enters the Lungs).
Alleviates nausea and promotes urination (enters the Stomach).
Jue Ming Zi: Cassia Seed
Eye herb.
Expels Wind Heat to improve vision.
Nourishes Liver yin.
Has both an ascending and descending action. Can guide up to eyes or down to the intestines
Clears wind heat and moistens the bowels. Anchors Liver yang by nourishing Kidney yin. Treats exterior and interior wind.
Qing Xiang Zi: Celosia
Strongly clears Liver fire.
Benefits the eyes and ears.
Eliminates superficial visual obstruction.
Often combined with Jue Ming Zi and Mi Meng Hua.
Mi Meng Hua
Does not treat wind.
Light sensitivity, red swollen eyes, excessive tearing.
