What is stagnation of qi?
the local accumulation of nonfunctional qi that manifests as constraint, clumping, or rebellion.
What causes qi stagnation?
emotional disturbances, irregular eating habits, trauma, and externally-contracted pathogenic influences. Long-term qi deficiency can also cause qi stagnation.
Qi stagnation over time leads to what?
disorders of other bodily functions and systems. Blood stasis, phlegm obstruction, food stagnation, and deficiency disorders are typical.
Qi stagnation causes what functions of the qi dynamic to break down?
ascending and descending
What are the primary clinical manifestations of qi stagnation?
pain and distention
What are the two major types of formulas for regulating the qi?
The first promotes the smooth movement of qi, unblocks stagnation, and is used for treating pain and distension. The second type directs rebellious or abnormal flow of qi downward and is used for treating such problems as vomiting, belching, hiccup, and some forms of coughing or wheezing.
