Q

What are some biochem parameters that can be elevated in cattle with cholangiohepatitis? How else could these changes be interpreted?

A

GGT - a cholestatic enzyme; can be high in neonates due to colostrum

AST - liver leakage enzyme, but also found in muscle, erythrocytes and cardiac muscle

ALP - cholestatic enzyme and is more reliable as chronic liver dz marker in equids; also comes from bone and intestines

SDH - liver specific and useful for active hepatocellular necrosis; chronicity may show normal SDH levels
