The belief that monarchs were ruling on behalf of God, and responsible to only God.
Divine Right of Kings
The term used for payment received by a priest for his appointment to a parish.

A general term referring to people who had not been trained and accpeted as priests.
Laity/Laymen
A document, issued with the Pope’s authority, setting out the cancellation of punishment in purgatory.
Indulgences
The eldest son (or nearest male relative) inherited everything.
Primogeniture
According to the teachings of the Catholic Church, God’s representative on Earth.
