Henry v France
Henry invaded France in 1512 but achieved nothing. He returned in 1513 and took the towns of Therounne and Tournai. He also captured some nobles during the Battle of the Spurs, which was a great propaganda victory. This gave Henry the glory he desired but wasn’t particularly useful for England and exhausted them financially
However:
- Henry achieved his aim of glory
- France agreed to pay the arrears (money owed) of the French Pension
- Henry’s sister Mary married Louis XII

Henry, unlike his father, showed little interest in the running of affairs. Wolsey, who supported Henry’s war policy in order to advance up the ranks, rose in prominence. Nearly all matters of government were referred to him and he was appointed Lord Chancellor in 1515
Henry also won back the support of the nobility through aggressive policies. His creation of new nobles won him support, contrasting with his father strict policies
