tx If conservative
measures fail
rubber band ligation of internal hemorrhoids is indicated
If ligation fails, the next step is
surgical hemorrhoidectomy.
Acutely thrombosed external hemorrhoids can be treated by
excision if the patient presents within the first 3 days of symptoms. Otherwise, supportive care is indicated.

External: distal to the dentate line
Internal: proximal to the dentate line
