What are the signs and symptoms of a hemolytic transfusion reaction?
lower back pain
headache
chest pain
tachypnea
tachycardia
dark urine
hypotension
Pernicious anemia
B12 deficiency
glossitis (beefy-red smooth tongue)
weight loss
fatigue
Polycythemia
plethoric (dark and flushed) skin
aplastic anemia
pancytopenia
dyspnea on exertion
petechiae and ecchymosis
What components are present in plasma?
clotting factors
What lab results should be reviewed after the administration of plasma? RBCs? Platelets?
plasma - PT
RBC - Hct
Platelets - Plt count
Disseminated intravascular coagulation
dysfunctional clotting factors that can cause blood obstruction or hemorrhage
S/Sx: prolonged bleeding, petechiae, abdominal distention (d/t internal bleeding)
third spacing
vascular dehydration due to cellular injury (usually burns)
- hyperkalemia, hyponatremia, increased H/H.
What size IV needle should be used for the administration of packed RBCs?
> 20 gauge.
