Hematology And Oncology Stuff Flashcards
Where does fetal erythropoiesis occur at different points in life
Yolk sac = 3-8 weeks
Liver = 6 weeks- birth
Spleen = 10-28 weeks Old
Bone marrow = 18 weeks -> rest of life
“Young Liver Synthesizes Blood”
Blood components
1) Erythrocytes/ hematocrit
- usually 45%
2) Buffy coat: platelets and leukocytes
- 1% of total blood usually
3) plasma
- usually 55%
- contains no cells and is 90% water
- 10% is proteins with the majority being albumin (maintains oncotic pressure and is made in the liver)
- other proteins = globulins, transport proteins and fibrinogen
- plasma that has no proteins in it is called serum*
What is the general lifespan for RBCs?
120 days
What are the different types of globulins?
Alpha and beta = transport fats/metal ions/fat-soluble vitamins
Gamma = antibodies
What are the dense granules that platelets have stored in them?
Calcium
ADP
Serotonin
Histamine
“CASH money”
What are the alpha granules that platelets have sorted in them?
Von-willebrand factor
Fibrinogen
Fibronectin
Platelet factor 4
“alFa granules contain vWF, Fibrinogen, Fibronectin, platelet Factor Four”
