Q

6 causes of anemia

A
  1. Deficiency of building blocks of RBC (iron, vitamin b12, folate)
  2. Congenital abnormality of Hb (thalassemia or sickle cell anemia)
  3. Abnormal production of RBC (empty bone marrow = aplastic anemia, or bone marrow filled with other elements-leukemia, lymphoma)
  4. Loss of RBC (bleeding)
  5. Decreased RBC lifespan (hemolysis)
  6. Chronic illness (ie. renal disease = decreased erythropoietin)
