HELPING WITH RETRIEVAL DP 11 Flashcards
Recall
- Involves reproducing information stored in memory with few to no cues
- Bringing the information into conscious awareness and doing so provides evidence that something previously learned was retained
Recall types
Free Recall, cued recall, serial recall
Free Recall
Being able to access info from memory with no cues
Eg. recalling names of 7 dwarfs
Cued Recall
Being able to access info from memory with the use of cues
Eg: naming the seven dwarfs after being given first letter of each name
Serial Recall
Being able to access info from memory in a specific order with no cues
Eg. phone number
Recognition
Access information from memory by identifying the correct info amongst incorrect alternatives
Eg. multiple choice
Relearning
Learning info that has previously been learnt (as a means of assessing the amount of info retained from original learning)
Saving score
Measures the percentage of info retained from original learning
Savings = no. of og trials OR time - no. of trials OR time for relearning / no. of og trials OR time
- Fewer trials/less time = information retained
Eg. originally took u 20 times to learn how to ride a bike, now it takes 5, saving score = 75%
Reconstruction
Demonstrating what is in memory by putting something back in order
Eg. remaking lego in a specific order
