Q
Decent Planning
A
FL340-FL200
Will assume for the example of the groundspeed is 520 kts.
• Altitude to lose x3 = distance needed to descend
• Groundspeed/2 = rate of descent
EXAMPLE:
FL 340-FL 200 = 14,000×3 = 42 miles to desend
520/2 = 260(0) or 2600 ft/min descent rate needed

Q
BINGO fuel
A
- Write down your RESV (Reserve) fuel.
- Write down your ALT (alternate) fuel. If you weren’t given an alternate, then figure out with dispatch what your alternate will be and write down that fuel.
- Figure out the straight-line distance from your HOLD to your DEST.
- Approximately 1000 lbs fuel/100 mi.
- Add 500 lbs buffer for displayed radar vectors and approach.
EXAMPLE:
2.327 RESV
2.500 ALT
0.600 BURN (will assume for this example it is 60 miles from HOLD to DEST). (60/100 = .6×1000 = 600 lbs of fuel)
0.500 BUFFER
=5927 BINGO
You need to leave the hold for either your destination or alternate when you reach 5927 lbs of fuel.
