Heating The Earth Flashcards
What are the layers of the atmosphere?
🌎Thermosphere🌎
🌎Mesosphere🌎
🌎Stratosphere🌎
🌎Troposphere🌎
How does the atmosphere influence the earth?
- it’s the air we breath
- it absorbs heat from the sun
- it retains heat at night
- it protects us from the dangerous rays from the sun
- it’s where weather is formed
What gases make up the atmosphere?
78% NITROGEN
21% OXYGEN
1% WATER VAPOUR + CARBON DIOXIDE
What causes uneven heating of the earth?
It’s caused by the latitude and the tilt of the earth
What is the distribution of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere?
72% CARBON DIOXIDE
10% METHANE
5% NITRUS OXIDE
13% CFCs
What are the causes of global warming?
Fossil fuels, CFCs, trees, waste
How do fossil fuels effect global warming?
More oil, gas and fossil fuels are being buried in power stations, factories and homes, which increase CO2 in the air.
How do CFCs effect global warming?
There is a greater increase in CFCs due to the greater use of plastic, aerosols and fridges
How do trees effect global warming?
More trees are being cut down in Equatorial forests in Brazil. More CO2 is being release into the air but there aren’t as many trees to absorb it.
How does waste effect global warming?
There is more household waste in dumps, more animal dung and greater acreage under paddy fields which emit green house gases. This increase CO2 levels.
What is global warming?
The earths atmosphere retains heat from the sun. This is the greenhouse effect. Greenhouse gases are increasing and as they increase more heat is retained, so the earth is getting warmer.
What are three effects of global warming?
- more food
- water shortage
- desertification
His will global warming affect Ireland?
RISING TEMPERATURE: temperature will increase in summer which can help with some crop growth but can lead to water shortage which can lead to irrigation systems for farming
MORE RAIN: Winters will be wet and stormy. Increase in flooding and bog-bursts. Greater erosion in coastal areas and a greater need for flood protection.
SEA LEVEL RISES: This will endanger low lying coastal areas such as Dublin and the centre of major coastal sites.
