Why is weather important ?

A

♦️ Families planning day trips to the seaside need to know if there is sunshine and dry weather.
♦️ Farmers planning cutting of silage or harvesting of grain need dry weather
♦️ Airports need to prepare for icy and stormy conditions for landings or takeoffs.
♦️ Fishermen need to know the dangers posed by storms so that they are not caught too far out at sea.
♦️ Events such as football matches and horse racing are affected by bad weather in winter and supporters cannot travel and players or horses can be injured in the bad conditions.

What is a Stevenson screen ?

A

A Stevenson screen is a box with slatted sides that hold thermometers, a hydrometers and and barograph. It is a Woden box painted white to reflect the sun. The sides are slated to allow air to circulate and to keep out direct sunlight.
