heart patterns Flashcards
*HT Yang Collapse
Etiology
Progression of HT Yang vacuity that always involves KI Yang vacuity,
More severe, serious, acute and dangerous. Presentation corresponding to western diagnoses of myocardial infarction (heart attack) and is a major cause of death.
Patients who survive often experience symptoms of Blood stasis.
*HT Yang Collapse

Heart Qi Vacuity
etiology
REM: HT Qi that moves the Blood through the vessels.
HT Qi vacuity is a serious condition.
–usually develops slowly as a chronic condition. It can be the underlying cause of life threatening conditions.
– Can result from, or cause, vacuity of Lu and KI Qi, and well as GB Qi.
–Can develop from: •Extreme emotional problems, especially grief.
–Severe Blood loss due to chronic illness, chronic bleeding, or serious hemorrhaging; severe loss of fluids

Palpitations, intermittent cardiac pain (stabbing or stuffy in nature in the precordial region or behind the sternum) which often refers to the shoulder & arm,
in severe case there may occur cyanosis of face, lips & nails, cold limbs & spontaneous sweating:
note: this is a HT attack, congestive HT patient

HT Blood Vacuity
etiology
The HT governs Blood.
HT Blood keeps the Shen in its residence/ anchors it . Heart Blood vacuity allows Shen to escape, resulting in symptoms of Shen disturbance. Primary symptom is disturbance of Shen.
- Often seen in the combined pattern of HT/SP disharmony.*
- There are many causes of Blood vacuity:*
Blood loss •Poor diet •Emotional stress •Taxation fatigue •External or internal heat or dryness •SP vacuity •LV Blood vacuity •LV/KI Yin vacuity

t: pale, thin, slightly dry
P: thready & weak - BECAUSE BLOOD ISNT FILLING VESSELS
NOTE: blood isnt filling the vessels, so pallor, pulse & dizziness & vertigo

HT FIRE Excess
etiology
Fire tends to rise upward and may harass the HT which affects the Shen.
HT fire may be passed on to Urinary Bladder via the Small Intestine.

HT PHLEGM
etiology
(also called Phlegm Misting the HT Phlegm)
NOTE: the HT fire is now worse and now we see pathological water
Phlegm Misting the Heart Phlegm obstructs the Qi of the HT/Mind, causing mental confusion, and of the tongue, causing difficulty speaking.
Can be congenital in children and in certain cases of mental retardation.
In adults, the causes tend to be: •Emotional disturbances •Improper diet •Yin vacuity •External Pathogenic Factors
•Wind-Stoke Western conditions that are associated with this pattern are stroke and mental disorders

HT Yang Vacuity
etiology
Progression of HT Qi vacuity - more severe and includes cold signs and vulnerability to cold.
Yang is the moving aspect of Qi – HT Yang moves Blood sooooooooooooo HT Yang vacuity can lead to Blood stasis with chest pain.
