heart patterns Flashcards
*HT Yang Collapse
Etiology
Progression of HT Yang vacuity that always involves KI Yang vacuity,
More severe, serious, acute and dangerous. Presentation corresponding to western diagnoses of myocardial infarction (heart attack) and is a major cause of death.
Patients who survive often experience symptoms of Blood stasis.
*HT Yang Collapse
S/SX
basically HT Yang vacuity plus loss of consciousness or coma
Palpitations
SOB; feeble & shallow breathing
profuse sweating & cold limbs
cynosis of lips,
loss of conciousness, mental cloudiness, coma
t: very pale or bluish, purple, short
P: feeble fading pulse
ie: Heart Attack; infarction
*HT Yang Collapse
Treatment
Tonify HT Qi and Warm HT Yang
NOTE: This is more a “HT attack” ; its Yang deficiency plus
rem there is insufficient yang

Heart Qi Vacuity
etiology
REM: HT Qi that moves the Blood through the vessels.
HT Qi vacuity is a serious condition.
–usually develops slowly as a chronic condition. It can be the underlying cause of life threatening conditions.
– Can result from, or cause, vacuity of Lu and KI Qi, and well as GB Qi.
–Can develop from: •Extreme emotional problems, especially grief.
–Severe Blood loss due to chronic illness, chronic bleeding, or serious hemorrhaging; severe loss of fluids
Heart Qi Vacuity
Tmt
Boost/Tonify HT Qi
HT 5 - calm spirit, regulates heart rhythm; luo point
PC 6 - regulates qi, regulates heart calms spirit, luo point
UB 15 - back shu heart, regulatrs HT qi tonifies/nourishes heart; calms spirit
REN 17 regulates qi; front mu of PC, point of sea of qi
REN 6 this point is called the sea of qi; fosters original qi; tonifies qi
Heart Qi Vacuity
S/SX
Palpitations
SOB on exhertion
Spontaneous sweating (remember blood is fluid of HT)
Tiredness, litlessness, lassitde pallor
T: pale
P: weak pulse
HT BLOOD STASIS
treatment
(also known as Obstruction of HT Vessels)
Move HT Qi and Blood, Open Chest, Eliminate Stress, Resolve Phlegm, Expel Cold, Calm the Mind
Palpitations, intermittent cardiac pain (stabbing or stuffy in nature in the precordial region or behind the sternum) which often refers to the shoulder & arm,
in severe case there may occur cyanosis of face, lips & nails, cold limbs & spontaneous sweating:
note: this is a HT attack, congestive HT patient
PC 6 unbinds the chest & regulates qi; regulates the HT & calms the spirit; harmonises the ST & alleviates nausea & vomiting; clears heat & opes Yin wei; luo
PC 4 invigorates blood & dispels stasis; cools blood & stops bleeding; calms spirit; moderates acute conditions; xi-cleft of PC
HT 7 calms the spirit; regulates & toniefies the HT; shu streatm, yuan source
ren 17 fregulates qi & unbinds the chest; descends rebellion of LU & ST; benefits gathering qi; front mu PC; point of sea of qi;
UB 14 spreads LV qi & unbinds the chest; regulates HT; regulates & descends qi; PC back shu
UB 17 invigorates blood & dispels stasis; cools blood heat & stops bleeding; norishes & harmonises the blood; harmonises diaphragm & descends rebellious qi; influ point of blood
SP 10 invigorates the blood & dispels stasis; cools blood; harmonises menses, benefits the skin; “sea of blood”
KD 25 unbinds the chest; lowers rebellious LU & ST qi; “spirit storehouse”
HT BLOOD STASIS
s/sx
Palpitations, intermittent cardia pain (stabbing or stuffy in nature in the precordial region of behind the sternum - this your HT attack conjestive HT patient)
The pain often referes to the shoulder & arm, in severe cases there may occur cyanosis of face, lips & nails, cold limbs & spontaneous sweating.
T: purplish dark tongue or purplish spots,
P thready & hesitant or knotted
HT BLOOD STASIS
treatment
Move HT Qi and Blood, Open Chest, Eliminate Stress
PC 6 unbinds chest & regulates qi; LUO
PC 4 regulates the HT & calms the spirit; clears heat
HT 7 calms spirit; regulates & tonifies the HT; shu stream, yuan source
REN 17 regulates qi & unbinds the chest; benefits gathering qi; front mu of PC
UB 14 regulates the HT ; regulates & descends qi; back shu of PC
UB 17 invigorates blood & dispels stasis; cools blood heat & stops bleeding; nourishes & harmonises the blood; descends rebellious qi
SP 10 invigorates the blood & dispels stasis; cools blood; sea of blood
KD 25 unbinds the chest
HT Blood Vacuity
etiology
The HT governs Blood.
HT Blood keeps the Shen in its residence/ anchors it . Heart Blood vacuity allows Shen to escape, resulting in symptoms of Shen disturbance. Primary symptom is disturbance of Shen.
- Often seen in the combined pattern of HT/SP disharmony.*
- There are many causes of Blood vacuity:*
Blood loss •Poor diet •Emotional stress •Taxation fatigue •External or internal heat or dryness •SP vacuity •LV Blood vacuity •LV/KI Yin vacuity
HT Blood Vacuity
s/sx
Palpitations
insomia; dream-disturbed sleep
dizziness & vertigo
poor memory
Pallor, pale lips
anxiety, tendency to be startled
t: pale, thin, slightly dry
P: thready & weak - BECAUSE BLOOD ISNT FILLING VESSELS
NOTE: blood isnt filling the vessels, so pallor, pulse & dizziness & vertigo
HT Blood Vacuity
Treatment
Supplement/Nourish Blood, AND Quiet/Calm the HT & Shen
HT 7 - Calms Spirit and Regulates/Tonifies the Heart; shu stream & yuan source
PC 6 - regulates heart & calms spirit; unbinds chest & regulates Qi; luo connecting point
REN 14 - front mu of HT; regulates the Heart; calms spirit
REN 15 - Regulates the heart & calms the spirit; deLuo point
REN 4 - if the SP, LV or KD are involved ; front mu of SI; mtg point of SP LV KD
HT 6 - REGULATES HT blood; Calms spirit; xi cleft of HT;
SP 6 - calms spirit & invigorates blood; meeting point of SP, LV, KD
KD 7 - benefits kd’s; regulates the water passages & treats edema; jing river
KD 6 - nourishes kd’s & clears deficiency heat; calms the spirit; regulates lower jiao; confluent point of yin motitlity vessel
HT FIRE Excess
S/SX
(also called Hyperactivity of Heart Fire)
HT Fire (this is an excess pattern; the heat is pronounced/ it’s louder heat)
- -Palpitations*
- -Mental restlessness, feeling agitated, “impulsiveness”; angry; vexation*
- -insomnia*
- -flushed face,*
- -thirst, bitter taste,*
- -ulceration & pain of mouth & tongue*
- -hot & deep yellow urine, in severcase, hesitant & painful urine, dark urine or lood in urine; Patient may say they feel like they have an uti, but when they go to doctor they dont have one.*
- -T: red P: rapid*
- NOTE: can involve the following organs*
KI/HT: Insomnia, bad dreams, dry mouth &throat, flushed complexion
LV/HT: headache, red eyes, agitation, irascibility, bitter taste in mouth
SI/UB: Dribbling urination with reddish urine and stinging pain (UTI
HT FIRE Excess
etiology
Fire tends to rise upward and may harass the HT which affects the Shen.
HT fire may be passed on to Urinary Bladder via the Small Intestine.
Possible causes are: •Emotional problems •Poor diet •LV Fire •KI Yin vacuity
HT Fire Excess
Treatment
Drain HT Fire, Clear the HT, Nourish the Yin
HT 9 - revives consciousness; clears heat & benefits the tongue, eyes & throat; regulates HT qi & calms the spirit; Jing well
HT 8 - clears heat from the HT & SI; calms the spirit; regulates HT qi; activates the channel & alleviates pain; ying spring
HT 7 - calms the spirit; regulates & tonifies the HT; Shu stream, yuan source
REN 15 - regulates the HT & calms the spirit; descends lung qi & unbinds the chest; luo connecting
