heart patterns Flashcards

1
Q

*HT Yang Collapse

Etiology

A

Progression of HT Yang vacuity that always involves KI Yang vacuity,

More severe, serious, acute and dangerous. Presentation corresponding to western diagnoses of myocardial infarction (heart attack) and is a major cause of death.

Patients who survive often experience symptoms of Blood stasis.

Q

Heart Qi Vacuity

etiology

A

REM: HT Qi that moves the Blood through the vessels.

HT Qi vacuity is a serious condition.

usually develops slowly as a chronic condition. It can be the underlying cause of life threatening conditions.

Can result from, or cause, vacuity of Lu and KI Qi, and well as GB Qi.

–Can develop from: •Extreme emotional problems, especially grief.

Severe Blood loss due to chronic illness, chronic bleeding, or serious hemorrhaging; severe loss of fluids

Q

HT Blood Vacuity

etiology

A

The HT governs Blood.

HT Blood keeps the Shen in its residence/ anchors it . Heart Blood vacuity allows Shen to escape, resulting in symptoms of Shen disturbance. Primary symptom is disturbance of Shen.

  • Often seen in the combined pattern of HT/SP disharmony.*
  • There are many causes of Blood vacuity:*

Blood loss •Poor diet •Emotional stress •Taxation fatigue •External or internal heat or dryness •SP vacuity •LV Blood vacuity •LV/KI Yin vacuity

Q

HT PHLEGM

etiology

(also called Phlegm Misting the HT Phlegm)

A

NOTE: the HT fire is now worse and now we see pathological water

Phlegm Misting the Heart Phlegm obstructs the Qi of the HT/Mind, causing mental confusion, and of the tongue, causing difficulty speaking.

Can be congenital in children and in certain cases of mental retardation.

In adults, the causes tend to be: •Emotional disturbances •Improper diet •Yin vacuity •External Pathogenic Factors

•Wind-Stoke Western conditions that are associated with this pattern are stroke and mental disorders

20
Q

lethargic stupor or incoherent speech,

weeping & laughing w/o an apparent reason,

gurglind with sputum in throat

sudden collapes, coma

t: swollen body, white sticky coating (due to phlegm)
* P: string taut & rolling (**due to phlegm)*

etiology

A

Progression of HT Qi vacuity - more severe and includes cold signs and vulnerability to cold.

Yang is the moving aspect of Qi – HT Yang moves Blood sooooooooooooo HT Yang vacuity can lead to Blood stasis with chest pain.

NOTE:

KI is source of Yang so HT/KI vacuity pattern is often involved. Western conditions include angina pectoris and coronary heart disease.

etiology

A

May be seen as a progression of HT Blood vacuity.

May be due to general vacuity of Yin, especially KI Yin.

Similar to HT Blood vacuity plus heat and/or dryness.

Often seen in the combined pattern of HT/KI disharmony.

HT Blood vacuity & HT Yin vacuity often appear together in varying degrees.

Additional western conditions seen with HT Yin vacuity are tachycardia and hyperthyroidism.
