heart failure Flashcards
2 categories of heart failure
HF with preserved EF and reduced
acute decompensated HF occurs when
cardiac output fails to meet the bodys needs
HF on echo
decreased LV and RV function
increased LV and RV size
left sided HF leads to
congestion behind the failing ventricle
increased pulmonary pressure and congestion
left sided HF symptoms
SOB while laying down/at night
hemoptysis
pleural effusion
decreased renal function
fatigue and chest pain
right sided HF typically follows left sided because of
increased pulmonary pressures
causes of HF
- decreased myocardial contractility
- increased myocardial workload due to hypertension
- filling disorders
- dysrhythmias
3 primary components to the compensatory mechanism
- chronotrophic froce (HR)
- Inotrophic force (more force)
- ventricular dilation increasing cardiac output
complications of HF
increased LV and RV pressures
elevated systemic and pulmonary pressures
decreased cardiac output
