heart ekg shir Flashcards
what is an arrhythmia
abnormality of the electrical output of the heart; problem with the rate of your heartbeat
systole
contraction
diastole
at rest
what type of blood vessel is used to measure pulse rate
arteries only
what happens at the p wave
the atria depolarize and contract; systole
what happens at the qrs complex
the ventricles depolarize which means they are working and contracting
t wave
ventricles repolarize and relax, shows diastole
ventricular fibrillation
irregular random waveforms of varying amplitude, ventricles fibrillate instead of contracting, the heart pumps little to no blood, it is cardiac arrest as there is no cardiac output
sinus bradycardia
normal rhythm but heart rate is low and the p and t waves are longer
sinus tachycardia
fast heart rate, short time between t wave of one cycle and p wave of another
flatline, asytole
the heart is not working or contracting, and there is no cardiac output
