hearing Flashcards
what is the outer ear made of ?
elastic cartilage
what is the external auditory meatus ?
the ear canal
are the parts closest to the external of the ear curved or straight?
curved
is the medial side of the external auditory meatus bony?
yes
how does the external auditory meatus get cleaned?
it is self cleaning
where does earwax get produced?
the outer ear
what is the tympanic membrane?
the eardrum
where is the eardrum located?
between the outer and middle ear
what happens to the eardrum when sound touches it?
it vibrates
be able to describe the perfusion disease of the middle ear
where is the middle ear located?
inside the temporal bone
what are some things in the middle ear?
the ossicles and the auditory tube
where does the auditory tube lead to?
the pharynx
what are the 3 ossicles of the middle ear?
malleus, incus, stapes ( learn in this order)
what is the oval window?
the part of the middle ear that is connected to the stapes
what is the purpose of the auditory tube?
it connects the middle ear to the throat and equalizes pressure
what helps to open and close the auditory tube?
muscles in the throat
what is the cochlea?

the hair cells that contain microvili
which nerve innervates the spiral organ?
the chochlear nerve
what makes up conductive hearing?
outer ear, middle ear
what makes up sensorineural hearing?
the inner ear and neural pathway
conductive hearing loss is because of damage to which parts of the ear?
outer and middle ear
