What are micro-organisms?
Tiny microscopic organisms such as bacteria, viruses and fungi.
What three factors can effect your health?
Lack of exercise
Poor diet
Intake of drugs/alcohol
How are diseases spread?
Diseases are spread by air, personal contact, soiled objects, skin, mucous membrane, saliva, urine, blood, sexual contact, food and water.
Describe the effects of smoking.
Smoking can be the cause of cancer
Irritation and inflammation of the stomach and intestines
Increased risk of painful ulcers along the digestive tract
Reduced ability to smell and taste
Early wrinkling of the skin
Higher risk of blindness
Gum disease (periodontitis).
Describe the effects of alcohol.
Alcohol can interfere with the brains pathways causing you to act differently
It can damage the heart - stroke/ high blood pressure
It can cause cancer
Damage to the immune system
Damage to the liver
Describe the effects of a lack of exercise.
Increase in body weight
Fat builds up around organs and in airways
Higher risk of depression
Weaker bones
Risk of heart disease, diabetes, colon cancer and high blood pressure
