Reasons why people do not look for advice and or support:
Young people fear that adults will not understand them.
Afraid of judgement.
Afraid that adults will break confidentiality.
Not sure where to get the help that they need.
In denial about having a “problem”.
Cannot “afford” to access services.
Fear personal safety and safety of others.
Things we do if we find it difficult to ask for help
Listen when someone tells you they have a problem.
Ask a close friend or teacher to assist you when speaking to your family - if you too scared to do it alone.
Think carefully about how your actions affect your life and the lives of family and friends,
Phone a helpline if you do not want to speak to someone you know.
Find out if there are support groups in your area.
