Q
Describe Erikson’s Psychosocial Development (Initiative vs. Guilt) for preschool children.
A
- 3-5 years
- Children take initiative by planning activities and attempting new tasks.
- Parents need to encourage the child to become more independent while at the same time protecting the child so that constant failure is avoided.
- Caregivers who are discouraging or dismissive may cause children to feel ashamed of themselves (guilt) and become overly dependent.
